Welcome! I’m Alexandra, the author behind Flythesevenseas.
I started this blog in 2013 to share my observations, experiences and discoveries of life in Germany. While you could say that I’ve started to ‘find my way’ here, I’m still keen to share my perspective on experiencing german culture, living here and places I’ve discover along the way.
I was born and raised in Sydney and proud to call myself an Australian with Greek heritage. The only plate smashing I do is in the kitchen.
In 2011 I decided that it was time to make a leap of courage across the oceans and move my life to the northern hemisphere – German bound. The decision was led by long-held dreams and my precious man that lived 16,000 km away. I did not allow my complete lack of knowledge for the German language get in my way.
The separation from my family and friends was, and is, not easy but what gets me through this is the thrill of new experiences ahead of me, the beautiful moments with my partner and the constant back-and-forth of texts, emails and calls with the special ones back home.
Since arriving in December 2011, I’ve lived Düsseldorf, then moved to Munich and have called Berlin home since 2017.
I am an ambitious dreamer, who finds it hard to sit still.
I have an addiction to reading and collecting recipes and love experimenting with ingredients and flavours. I’m a bit of a whole foods snob – putting a basket full of fresh produce in front of me is dangerous.
I find inspiration through landscapes, culture, traditions, language and people and could easily spend hours staring into the wonders of the sky.
Reach out to me if you’d like to collaborate on a project together, talk about expat life, share your german cultural experiences or just to have a chat.
