In pre-COVID times, today would have been the 5th day of the Oktoberfest in Munich. Bavarians would have shaken out their tracht to enjoy their first Maß, the Italian’s would still be sorting out last-minute accommodation for the coming weekend and at least a dozen Australians would have been escorted out of the Hofbräuhaus tent.

And while this is a hard pill for many Müncheners to swallow, the Wiesn for 2020 has been cancelled. The event that brought together 6,3 million people in 2019, employed more than 12,000 and sold 7,3 million litres of Festbier will have to wait another year. But if 2020 has taught me anything, it’s to make the most of what we have. And I’ve got a lot of great oktoberfest memories. So I’m digging out my archives to remember some favourite wiesn moments from the years gone by.

Looking at these photos, I think there may have been more than just the Wiesn-grippe** going around if it took place this year…
For those looking for a little more, local Munich comedian Harry G has put together a great homage to the Wiesn – check it out here.
Add a comment to share your favourite Oktoberfest memory, or what you’re looking forward to at Oktoberfest 2021, I’d love to hear it!
Cheers, Prost and stay safe!
